Discovery Plus Shows (Discovery +) are live, it looks great and is full of content! The user friendly streaming app was launched following Disney Plus and Paramount Plus. Is this the tv consumption way of the future? Consumers are starting to wonder how this will effect their current show schedules. Discovery owns the Travel Channel therefore the Discovery + app streams content from the Network. It seems the only way to watch new episodes of Travel Channel shows is to stream on the app. This was first noticed when Dave Schrader of “The Holzer Files” encouraged people to watch the Season Finale on Discovery +. The first assumption was that the Network encouraged talent to market the new app. But then viewers noticed the Travel Channel was airing reruns of another show instead of the season finale. Another source has mentioned that the new season of Jack Osbourne’s series Portals To Hell, will only air on the Discovery + app as well.
This has peaked paranormal fans curiosity. Is Discovery trying to shift all content to the app…or is the Travel Channel on the verge of following the Syfy Network’s example of canceling paranormal programming? What will come of Travel Channel staples like Ghost Adventures?
Comedian Sebastian Maniscalco from, The Pete and Sebastian Show, has mentioned he has a new show on the Food Network. Episodes will first stream on the Discovery Plus app then air reruns on the Food Network.
Notable networks on Discovery Plus are HGTV, food network, TLC, Investigation Discovery, Animal Planet, OWN, Discovery, Magnolia, A&E, Lifetime, History, Travel Channel, DIY and more. The app includes 55,000 episodes from 2,500+ past and present shows. Also included is exclusive access to the BBC’s Planet Earth, Blue Plane, and Frozen Planet.
